I bought this vacuum cleaner based on the majority good reviews it got. It was fairly easy to put together and empty but there are a few basic flaws with this model. There are 2 hoses which come with it, the standard hose, and the long reach hose for doing the top of your stairs. When using the long reach hose, which is a tad heavier than the normal hose, you can notice a loss of suction (laws of physics I suppose it can't be avoided) as it's further away from the source of the suction which isn't that great in the first place. The long reach hose isn't much good for anything else besides doing up to the top of the stairs and it's awkward to use it anywhere else around the house as it's bulky and just makes moving around furniture difficult, but if you use the shorter hose, your reach is limited due to the length of the power cable and if you live in a fairly big house you'll find yourself changing power sockets frequently. Beware of all the gadgets/ turbo brush etc. that come with this cleaner, as most of them you'll never use. It's like when you buy a washing machine because of all the settings and you end up just using a couple of them! Don't let it cover the fact that it's only 220 air watts. Air watts are what you should be looking at when buying a hoover, not the actual wattage the motor uses i.e. 2200watts or whatever, and I'm starting to wonder why it isn't advertised on the Vax website or on Amazon as it's the most important part of a vacuum cleaner surely? To suck? I had to go to external websites to find this statistic which I should have done before I bought it. Compared to it's bigger brother the Vax Zen, which has around 340 air watts (AND I just want to state that this statistic IS advertised on the Vax website for the Vax Zen), this is lacking in suction to say the least. We had an Electrolux before this which lasted us for 15 years and the rated wattage on that is 350 air watts! Believe me when I say you can notice the suction difference. We're only changing as it went kamakaze down the stairs and the power switch broke off. It's a shame they don't make them like they used to but there you go. I'm waiting for DHL to collect this from me and take it back, and then I'm going to try the Vax Zen, which has a longer power cable, no annoying long reach hose, a higher air watt rating, and still has the 6 year guarantee. Hope this helps someone else looking to buy a vacuum cleaner. I'm still rating it 3 stars because of the 6 year guarantee, ease of use in terms of emptying and putting together and the light weight. Remember - AIR WATTS!
I decided to purchase a Mach 1 C90-M1 after researching several vacuum cleaners and to replace my trusty Vax 6131. My previous appliance had performed well but with a growing family, pets and a husband with allergies, I wanted to change to a bagless cylinder vacuum with a HEPA filter to further reduce dirt, dust and pet hair in my home. The vacuum is perhaps a little more expensive than I would usually be able to afford, however Vax offer a 6 year guarantee (parts and labour) if the product is registered online and having previously contacted the Vax careline to replace a vacuum head (which had only been damaged through wear and tear) I was impressed and felt confident that this product would last for the duration.
We are a busy household and I would usually vacuum the key areas at least once a day and on most days, more than that. I have small children living along side pets and so it is necessary to keep my carpets clean and hygienic. After unpacking the Mach 1 C90-M1, I set about vacuuming the key areas, namely the living room and bedrooms, and was immediately struck by the suction power. Having previously only cleaned my carpets the day before, I was amazed to see the dust building up in the bottom of the cylinder although my carpets had looked clean when I began. I used the Turbo Tool for my upholstery and the Turbo Brush for my carpeted areas and with a revolving brush section inside, they collected every pet hair en-route! A dusting brush and crevice tool attach to the hose handle so everything I need is close to hand. A hard floor tool and an extra long hose for cleaning the stairs are included also. I found the extra long hose particularly helpful as I was able to leave the cleaner at the bottom of the stairs and just take the hose with me. The telescopic tube is also adjustable so both myself and my taller husband can vacuum in a comfortable position.
I am also impressed with how quiet Mach 1 C90-M1 is. I am able to vacuum without waking my baby and toddler from their afternoon naps. The cylinder is easy to empty and it is a huge plus for me that I can empty the dust and dirt after every use rather than it sitting in the cleaner until the bag needs changing. The filters are easy to get to and it is no problem giving them a quick rinse regularly. I also like the on/off and cable retraction pedals rather than buttons. These allow me to control the cleaner with my toes rather than having to bend over.
All in all, I am very impressed with this product. I feel that I am living in a much cleaner home and my husband has commented that he doesn't think he is sneezing so much. My job has also been made much easier as the design of the Mach 1 C90-M1 means that all my tools are close to hand and there is no stopping and starting when cleaning the stairs to reposition the plug! I would happily recommend this cleaner to all the other busy mums out there!
